Stephen J. Franzino

Dr. Stephen John Franzino is a double board-certified, Sports Medicine fellowship trained Orthopaedic surgeon with twenty-four years of Orthopaedic surgical experience. He has continually provided patients with advanced, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services for a wide range of Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic conditions
Dr. Franzino graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern California. He then attended and earned a medical degree from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.
He was honored with highest distinction in his graduating class and selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society as well as being a Dean Scholar for all four years. Dr. Franzino then completed an Orthopaedic internship and residency training at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center.
Dedicated to furthering his knowledge and training of Sports Medicine, Dr. Franzino also completed an additional one-year fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. During his fellowship year, Dr. Franzino provided Orthopaedic coverage and treatment for the San Francisco Giants (MLB), Oakland Raiders (NFL), San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose Sabercats (AFL), USA National Rugby Team and the College of San Mateo.
Also involved in the Academic Sports Medicine community, Dr. Franzino is a member of multiple professional organizations and served as the AOSSM delegate from California, he is a member or past member of:
- American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine
- Arthroscopy Association of North America
- American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
- American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons
- The Society for Golf Medicine and Performance
- National Hockey League Team Physicians Society
Dr. Franzino has been an Orthopaedic consultant for professional Bay Area Sports Teams, including the San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose Sabercats (Arena Football League), professional Lacrosse and the PGA Tour. Dr. Franzino has been affiliated with the San Jose Sharks for over twenty years. Dr. Franzino is also the consulting team physician for several local high schools and Pacific Union College.
He is also the team physician for the Elite Prolific Prep Basketball Academy, Napa Silverado’s Baseball Club Instructional League, Napa Valley Community College and the PGA Tour when in Napa.
