Samantha Rafie, PhD is faculty at University of California San Diego Health Department of Psychiatry and San Diego VA Healthcare System. Nationally, she is one of a small number of psychologists fellowship trained in chronic pain management, and served Veterans of the United States Armed Forces at the first inpatient Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program in the country’s VA healthcare system. Dr. Rafie serves as a consultant to Functional Restoration Programs across California providing specialized pain care to injured workers. Her clinical expertise extends from primary care pain management through tertiary-level pain rehabilitation programs, including opioid tapering, medication-assisted treatment, and detoxification. Dr. Rafie has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and trained interdisciplinary teams and future healthcare professionals in providing psychologically-informed pain care. Former chair of the ethics special interest group of the American Pain Society and founding member of the Alliance to Advance Comprehensive Integrative Pain Management’s pain policy congress, Dr. Rafie strives to close existing gaps in pain treatment to improve care for those living with chronic pain.
