Functional Restoration Program

The International Association for the Study of Pain defines pain as "An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage."

Our Functional Restoration Program is a gold-standard approach that has been thoughtfully designed to be consistent with Chronic Pain Medical Treatment Guidelines (MTUS) guidelines aimed to treat patients from a comprehensive, all-inclusive approach.

What is a Functional Restoration Program?

An FRP is a rehabilitation program for people who suffer from chronic pain. The goal of the Functional Restoration Program is to increase physical functioning, improve their ability to cope with pain and promote their return to a productive home or work lifestyle.

Who is a Candidate for a Functional Restoration Program?

The ideal candidate for the FRP is someone for whom:

  • Treatments have failed to improve their condition
  • Surgery is not an option
  • Pain impacts their ability perform daily activities at work or home
  • Are ready to take the next step to feel better and improve their outlook on life

The Functional Restoration Program provides patients with the unique opportunity to receive evidence-based treatments from top professionals who work together to treat pain from every angle. The interdisciplinary treatment team includes:

  • Medical Doctors
  • Physical Therapists
  • Pain Psychologists
  • Physician Assistants
  • Nutritionists
  • Yoga Professionals
  • Vocational Rehabilitation Specialists
  • Naturopathic Medical Doctors
  • Wellness Providers
  • Chronic Pain Experts

Our providers work closely as a team with the shared goal of improving function, activity, overall health and well being to allow active participation in a meaningful life. Weekly interdisciplinary meetings ensure patients are progressing and receiving the highest quality care available.

At the conclusion of the intensive 30-day program, patients are well equipped with a variety of research supported coping skills, which empower them to manage pain from a self-directed approach. Equally important as pain management, is improving one's functional capacities, psychological well being and quality of life. Many participants are able to return to work and/or pursue other productive goals that reflect a fulfilling, personally meaningful life.

Participant goals while in the program will include:

  • Increased physical activity & improved physical condition
  • Return to the workforce as a capable and productive employee
  • Reduction of mood symptoms, specifically depression and anxiety related to pain
  • Increase in valued activities and currently limited by functional limitations
  • Increase understanding of chronic pain and utilization of advantageous pain coping skills
  • Minimize the need for pain medication
  • Decrease medical utilization by learning self-directed coping skills to manage pain and mood
